This. This so much. As someone who goes to a lot of concerts, one thing you learn pretty quickly is that there are a lot of jerks at shows. And if people aren't being actively malicious, they're being casually rude and not paying attention to the comfort and safety of those around them. My sister and I both have terrible social anxiety, and mine is at its worst at concerts (one of these days, I'll write a post about why that is and the only way that I know how to deal with it), and when people are pushing up against me and making me feel boxed in and crowded with no regards to space and safety, it makes me have an anxiety attack. That's not even getting into the moments where you casually hear people engaging in racism/sexism/homophobia/transphobia/etc. at shows (though this happens less often at indie shows which cater generally to a younger and more progressive crowd). Anyways, Speedy Ortiz is as tired of concert culture as I am apparently, and they've released a new hotline for their shows to deal with any fans who decide to be shitty. Thank you, Speedy Ortiz. Just know that folks out there really appreciate this.
