close call for friendly fires drummer at the mercury awards

    The Friendly Fires drummer Jack Savidge was admitted to the hospital yesterday (Sept. 7th), on the eve of the Barclaycard Mercury Prize. The drummer tweeted:

    "Admitted to the hospital with a fever and darkside purple rash on my leg. No idea whether I'm gonna be able to play at the Mercurys tomorrow."


    Fortunately Savidge pulled through and rolled up on the red carpet this evening with band mates Ed Macfarlane and Edd Gibson ready to perform. Friendly Fires are nominated this year alongside Florence And The Machine, La Roux, The Horrors, and Kasbian for the 20,000 cash prize. Some past winners of the Mercury include Portishead, Pulp, Antony and the Johnsons, and Artic Monkeys.
