Former One Direction
has just released his newest single, a duet with Sia
, "Dusk Till Dawn." The accompanying video is more of a mini movie than a music video, starring Zayn and Girls
actress Jemima Kirke as a couple of mastermind criminals on the run.
The video begins with a classic action movie MacGuffin trope as Zayn looks into a mysterious briefcase that everyone's after. The video flashes forward, giving you a taste of the action to come before cutting to the title screen. Zayn and the mysterious girl in the fur coat and sunglasses have a brief encounter in the streets before Zayn is taken into what looks like an abandoned warehouse by the cops. They tell him his name is "mud on the streets," only to find that his briefcase is filled with clothes and his tattoos don't match the gangsters' tattoos. Zayn then takes the gangsters, who are also vying for the contents of the briefcase, on a high speed chase. In the end, Zayn and his girl set a trap for the gangsters and call the police, making their smooth getaway into the sunset.
Although the song is a pretty typical love song, with lyrics in the chorus like "But you'll never be alone/I'll be with you from dusk till dawn/Baby I am right here/I'll hold you when things go wrong," the video takes the idea of being with someone through it all to a new level. Overall, the action-filled clip, directed by Marc Webb, grabs your attention as well as any bona fide action movie.
