's Hayley William took to Twitter yesterday to criticize One Direction and teach us all how best to use a meme. She wrote "Beginning of that new 1D song couldn't sound any more like the beginning of @newfoundglory's 'it's not your fault' but" and included a Kermit the Frog "but that's none of my business" meme for effect.
Williams is the longtime girlfriend of New Found Glory guitarist Chad Gilbert, who wrote off the similarities, tweeting simply that "music influences music." That explanation seems still more applicable given that the 1D and NFG songs share an undeniable resemblance, not only with each other, but with 1985's "Faithfully," by Journey.

Despite the "music influences music" argument, many think Williams is right to call attention to 1D's copycat ways. The group has been accused of stealing riffs and melodies from the likes of The Clash"
, Queen, The Who, Def Leppard, and more. When you look at it all together, it's hard not
to be skeptical pop's top boy band, even if they've only written a handful of their own songs.
