Here are a couple things that I'm a total sucker for: bands with a brass section, Peter Pan references, and infectiously energetic live shows. And Florida's KIDS
has all of those things in spades. We're premiering a live video for the band's number, "Second Star On The Right" -- aka the path to Neverland for any Philistines out there that don't know their literary history -- and I'm hard pressed to name many live videos I've seen this year that are more fun.
Combing roots rock with pop hooks, soaring and passionate vocals, and the type of full sound you get when your band has more than the basic vocals/guitar/bass/drums setup, "Second Star on the Right" is the sort of track I need to hear performed in a concert hall ASAP. The track is doubly special because I'm hard-pressed to name any direct influences on their sound. There are hints of some Avett-esque roots and some Arcade Fire-esque baroque pop, but they're just that: hints. KIDS is a band refining and defining their own sound, and we don't get enough of that anymore.
