Here are three things I love: music, video games, and Conan O'Brien f***ing with celebrities. Obviously, I love music. I work here. And video games have been a major part of my life since I was 4 and my parents bought me a Sega Genesis. And there are two game franchises that are at least partially responsible for music being such an important part of my life: Grand Theft Auto (specifically GTA: Vice City) and Tony Hawk Pro Skater. GTA turned me on to 80s music and Tony Hawk introduced me to punk and hardcore. So of course I loved the video of Conan O'Brien playing the new Tony Hawk game with none other than Mr. Hawk himself and Lil Wayne.
The video working has nothing to do with the game which seems like more or less the exact same Tony Hawk game I've been playing since the 90s (and the visuals look a** ugly but this isn't a place for a discussion on aesthetics in video games). The video works because Lil Wayne's stoned persona (I have to assume he's at least mildly messed up on something in this video) is the perfect comedic foil to O'Brien. Also, it's just nice to see people enjoying video games because as somebody who has written about video games professionally, I can tell you that gamers have a tendency to be...a little intense and uninviting to other folks to their medium, and just seeing these three have fun with a game and not take it so seriously is a nice change of pace.
