When the words "new" and "Tom Waits" are thrown around together, you never know exactly what you're going to get. Is it going to be the soft, jazzy piano of The Heart Of Saturday Night or the foreboding accordion with stomp-and-growl to match on Rain Dogs? His new song, "Back In The Crowd," off of his upcoming 10/24 release, Bad As Me, leans more toward the former with Waits pitching forth his notoriously grizzled voice over sweet, lightly arpeggiated guitar provided by Marc Ribot and Los Lobos' David Hidalgo. The track showcases Waits' talent for a multitude of different musical styles, with this one reaching back into yesteryear for a song that would seem equally at home in the 1950s as it does in 2011.
