Sufjan Stevens often amazes with his depth, his versatility, and his attention to detail. He may be the closest thing the independent music landscape has to a 21st century composer, weaving harmony, instrumentation, and his expansive visions into epic constructions. Many fretted about the future when Stevens announced Illinois would be the last of the 50 States project (the whole thing turned out to be a promotional gimmick) and that he might retire from music entirely. Fret not; The Age Of Adz is here. His long awaited follow-up to the fizzling of the 50 States is everything you'd expect it to be, larger than life, beautiful, and awe-inspiring.

The Age Of Adz is streaming now, two weeks before it's 10/12 release date, over at NPR. If you decide to go ahead and purchase the collection, you might want to consider doing it through Bandcamp, as Stevens and his label Asthmatic Kitty have been verbal about their issues with Amazon's cheap-y deal devaluing music.

The All Delighted People EP is out now. -joe puglisi
