Equinox, Don't Kill My Vibe: The Summer Jams You Missed

The Autumnal Equinox has arrived. As a very wise professor once told me, "If we were pagans, this would be a big deal." But we're not - at least I think we're not. Just to be safe, shoutout to any pagans reading this, happy holidays. For the rest of us, this especially shitty day just means it's officially fall. Depressing as that may sound, the Baeble team is not going to let you wallow in self-pity over all the things you didn't do this summer. In fact, we're giving you a little playlist of all the songs you missed to extend your summer vibes with. Here are our official picks for the lost summer jams of 2016.

    Wyclef Jean - "Hendrix"

Wyclef is a 90s Hip Hop legend from his time in the Grammy award-winning group, The Fugees, but since the early 2000s he's struggled to remain relevant. This summer he reemerged with one of my favorite songs of the season, "Hendrix," in which he blends his lyricism and social consciousness with a modern Trap Rap beat to create a banger with meaning.

    YBS Skola - "Purple Haze"

A rising figure in the Baltimore rap scene, YBS Skola, crafts the same fun, light party music with a street edge that Baltimore has been known for producing for the last couple years. Unfortunately, this style has yet to break into the mainstream, but his song "Purple Haze," an ode to the popular strain, became one of my favorite songs of the summer.

    Mitski - "Fireworks"

From the Puberty 2 album. This song has the most vivid and beautiful lyrics. You can't not listen. Hard to pick just one song from this album.

    MUNA - "Loudspeaker"

Really fun song that makes you feel like you can do anything. Fuck the haters.

    Amine - "Caroline"

I defy you not to dance to this song. Amine is a young Portland artist who hit big with this lively song, a tribute to a "bad thang" complete with abundant Quentin Tarantino references. Believe it or not, this song came out on Soundcloud in March, but in the last month it has exploded, showing up on the outer reaches of the Billboard Hot 100 and hitting number 6 on the Soundcloud charts. Now we all have to relive the summer, because this should have been on repeat through it.

    Young M.A - "OOOUUU"

If anything can ever knock D.R.A.M.'s "Broccoli" out of Soundcloud's No. 1 spot, it may be this song. Young M.A came out of nowhere with "OOOUUU," which has recently gotten remixes by names like Nicki Minaj, The Game, Meek Mill, and A$AP Ferg. But the recent popularity is not due to a big release - M.A first put out the song in May. Why didn't we pick up on this track earlier in the summer? How many licks does it take to get to the center of a Tootsie Pop? Questions of equal importance that we need answered.

    Seth Walker - "Dreamer"

Seth Walker just released his album Gotta Get Back at the end of the summer and man, is it a sweet, sweet summer gem. This song specifically puts me right on the beach as the sun goes down, chills me out, and makes me forget about all of my problems. If you're into John Mayer or Jason Mraz, then this bluesy song is the one for you. (P.S. He's also going on TOUR, which you totally should not miss).

    Blonder - "Talk To Me"

This is a feel-good song with swirling synths and smooth vocals. Could totally blast this in my car as the warm wind seeps through the open windows.
