U.K. indie rockers Wild Beasts are back with a track off their upcoming "Reach a Bit Further" single. The track, "Thankless Thing," features the subtle instrumentation and dramatic croon of singer Hayden Thorpe that has come to define the sound of the band, complete with miles of reptitive, spindly guitar licks.
The verse features a drum beat laid out on the toms that perfectly matches the jumpy rhythm of the bass line. The delay of the guitars gives the chorus an uplifting tone, at least in comparison to the verse, but don't be mistaken; it's all dark and moody, like a good Wild Beasts tune, brooding and introspective while maintaining its momentum. We're hoping that momentum continues into their next LP, which is said to be well in the works.
