The whole driving ethos behind future funk music is to take something old and established, and completely revive it. Viceroy embodies that idea more than most, churning out tracks that are equal parts old and new, vibrant and smooth. That's why it makes so much sense for him to work with the Knocks. The Knocks are the epitome of smooth. They're the chill to Viceroy's energy, so they and Viceroy fit together like two perfect puzzle pieces (say that 5 times fast).
Maybe that's why Viceroy's new remix of "Shades" sounds so full and so natural.
It comes as a switch up from Viceroy's normally house-y dance music. Instead, the remix positions itself perfectly between genres, drawing from dance, jazz, and even some rock.
"I wanted to deliver something special and unique for my remix of ‘Shades,'" Viceroy explains. "I've been listening to a lot of classic rock these days and you can definitely hear its influence in my remix."
As we all try to catch the last few summer rays of sun, what we really need is a song that makes us feel like we're strolling down the street with our shades on. So if you let this remix of "Shades" be your final song of the summer, you won't be disappointed.
