Add playing guitar to the list of things Johnny Depp is better at than you. Last night in London Depp crashed Ryan Adams
' gig at the Shepherd's Bush Empire, and casually reminded everyone ever that he's the fucking coolest. Ryan Adams, whose place in rock n' roll history has been secured throughout his shockingly productive heroine tinged career, had Depp playing guitar on the B-side for his 7" single "Gimme Something Good
," so the stage-crashing wasn't quite out of left field. The two of them covering Danzig's heavy metal hit "Mother," however, totally out of left field.
Considering that both Adams and Depp are incapable of shitting anything but gold, it should come as no surprise that they fucking nailed it. Adams' rock n' roll struggle sound lends itself to metal: it's got all of the rage and desperation with a shot of always accessible vulnerability. Depp wasn't just there for show and tell either, mother fucker tackled John Christ's guitar solo, and killed it, dead. They also played "Kim," another track off of Adams' recently released eponymously titled LP
