Over this past weekend, Björk premiered the video for her newest song "The Gate" with global video channel Nowness as part of an installation for London's Fashion Week. The video, directed by longtime collaborator and CGI master Andrew Thomas Huang, depicts a beautiful, otherworldly idea of love and connection. As Björk told Dazed magazine, "‘The Gate' is essentially a love song, but I say ‘love' in a more transcendent way."

To begin the video, Björk sits in a computer-generated golden field playing a wooden flute as various floating shapes move with a sense of life in the sky just beyond the singer-songwriter. After turning around to reveal her masked face and a slight, peaceful smile, the video cuts to an iridescent, pulsing core of light. The camera pulls back to reveal Björk holding and manipulating the swirling sphere. Throughout the rest of the video, Björk sends this core of light back and forth between her and another surreal being, symbolizing an intense, spiritual connection and love.

Speaking to Nowness about the video, Andrew Thomas Huang said this: "'The Gate' picks up where 2015's Vulnicura left off. It is the first glimpse into Björk's utopia. The doorway lies within the wound from Vulnicura, which now appears transformed into a prismatic portal channeled between the chests of two lovers. Not lovers in the quotidian romantic sense, but in a broader cosmological way." This imagery is very clear throughout the video as Björk and her cosmological lover move and dance through their fantastic, light-filled space.

One of the centerpieces of the video for "The Gate" is Björk's iridescent gown. The gown was custom made for the video by Gucci creative director Alessandro Michele, and took about 550 hours to make, with 320 additional hours given to embroidering. The dress itself, like the video, is stunning. With all its ruffling, beading, and luxurious detailing, Björk looks completely majestic in "The Gate." Björk seems royal, or even divine, as she allows her "gate" to be open to love again.
