Jesus, I feel like an old man right now. I'm only 26. I'm not ancient. But, I feel like the disconnect for me between what young folks like (at least in terms of mainstream, commercial music) and music whose appeal I remotely understand gets bigger and bigger every year. I'm going to make the argument that 2015 did not have an actual Song of the Summer. There was no big, defining hit. Sorry, Rihanna ("Bitch Better Have My Money) and Taylor Swift ("Bad Blood"). Better luck next year. But one of the songs that came close was OMI's "Cheerleader." And he's released the follow-up, "Hula Hoop." The sax bits in the song are great. They've got that Destroyer/M83 feel. The actual lyrics are mind-numbingly dull however, and I don't get why folks listen to this nonsense. And, yes, I realize this is my "get off my lawn" moment at Baeble. Whatever. Maybe I'll close my eyes and I'll wake up and be 60 in a Panama Hat living in Boca Raton.
