That's the mugshot! Sky looks darling with the popped collar, and they both totally look like drug addicts.
If you weren't already informed by your hip friends' Facebook shares, the music world's new Kurt and Courtney, DIIV's Zachary Cole Smith and Sky Ferreira, were arrested over the weekend in New York and charged with possession of heroin and Ecstasy, as well as possession of stolen property and aggravated unlicensed driving. According to Hudson Valley's Daily Freeman
, Smith was carrying 42 decks of heroin, and to those of us unfamiliar to the world of smack, Google informs us that a "deck" equates to 1-15 grams. That's a shit load of heroin.
The couple has since been released from the Ulster County Jail on bail (Smith $2,500 and Ferreira $1,500).
But this leads us to question: Are we really surprised this happened?
Looking back at Smith's June interview with Pitchfork
where he sounded off about SXSW corporatism and Kurt Cobain comparisons, he told writer Ian Cohen when asked if drugs were an issue...
"Yeah, they're a huge problem. [laughs] Definitely on tour, at least. We had one tour particularly where it was really bad, and a bunch of us-- not everybody-- were all just lying to each other. There's a lot of deception and bad blood. Drugs are fine for you alone at home, but when it comes to being a family, which a band is, it just messes everything up."
If you were wondering about the stolen vehicle that Smith and Ferreira were piloting...
It was a 1990 Ford pickup. This is not the truck, but a representation of the POS Smith allegedly stole.
I know artists can be humble, but these two modeled for Saint Laurent Paris, a place where a belt will cost you 500 bucks.
