It might sound like a cliché, but Salt Cathedral's music truly tells a story. Hailing from Columbia but currently living here in New York City, Juliana Ronderos and Nicolas Losada have collected sounds from their past and present, including synths, Caribbean music, and of course, Juliana's singular voice. Here at Baeble, they treated us to the culmination of these sounds- a one-of-a-kind style that's equal parts worldly and fun.
They started with "Always There When I Need You," a lighthearted love song. Then, they moved on to "No Love," a plea for world peace and finding love through dance. "Why not trade loving and dancing for violence, instead of killing each other?" asked Juliana (and we've got to say, we can't argue with that). They finished up with a beautiful rendition of "Fragments," which they stripped down to be slower and more emotional than their previous tracks.
The magic of Salt Cathedral is the obvious joy that they perform with, which stems from the music but also from their friendship. "We hang out, we have fun… the music is just a byproduct of that," remarked Nicolas. It means that there's a sense of intimacy to the music, even as it continues to lend itself to something larger than all of us.
