We recently had the privilege of sitting down for a session with the 20-year old singer-songwriter Chelsea Cutler
at Baeble Music HQ. She awed us with her summery, energetic acoustic guitar prowess and bubbly, upbeat vocals. "You Make Me", her latest Soundcloud single, and our Song of the Day, is another one to blast with the windows down. With an electronic drop at exactly the 1:00 mark, the song suddenly changes from a sweet acoustic love song to a pump-up anthem, a Chainsmokers-esque ode to summer romance.
When the synth fades out artfully for the next verse, Cutler switches back to her guitar. For such a young artist, she has a great sense of how to build tension in a song. She gives her listeners space to breath between drops, balancing the loud, dramatic moments of the song with her soft voice and gentle guitar work. This on-and-off melody matches the lyrics, in a way. Chelsea sings: "You make me go insane but that's how I want it / Oh with every word you say, you keep me falling," no doubt referring to an up-and-down relationship that both excites and scares her.
We love this song, and we're looking forward to hearing more new music from Chelsea. In the meantime, we'll be blasting this as we get out of the city for the long weekend tomorrow. And if you want even more, check out our session with the special singer below:
