For this week's #TBT
, we're taking it all the way back to 2013. Four years ago, Charli XCX
took the stage at Hype Machine's Hype Hotel in Austin, Texas. During her 25-minute set, the pop singer played songs like "Nuclear Seasons," "You (Ha Ha Ha)," and "What I Like," all from her debut album True Romance
that had been released just a month before the show. On stage, Charli XCX is fun and energetic, blending cuteness with a rock star vibe.
Most recently, Charli XCX released the song and video, "Boys
," which has been getting a lot of attention for its fun aesthetics and of course the star-filled cast. According to an interview with The FADER
, we probably won't be able to hear a new album from her until 2018, but until then she's planning on releasing a lot of other, non-album-related music. Until then, you can also watch and re-watch this throwback video to keep you occupied! It's definitely interesting to see how she's developed as an artist over time; since 2013, she's definitely moved in a more experimental-pop direction, and you can hear the difference from her Hype Hotel performance.
