It seems that everything The Avalanches do can be summed up as [insert given situation] on [insert most applicable drug for situation], and their new music video for the track "Subways" is no different. I actually reviewed the groups album Wildflower a few weeks back, and in it I said "Subways" wasn't a big favorite of mine, so I was surprised to see that the song was given the video treatment. After seeing the video, however, I can see why it did, because the song is spacey and ambient enough for directors/animators Mrzyk & Moriceau to go balls-to-the-wall crazy and create an acid-fueled episode of Sesame Street.

There's so much going on in this video--muppet orgies, anthropomorphic trains, a surprising amount of breasts, etc--and I could go on and on about all the weird-ass things in it, but I really don't think anything I could say would do it justice. It's simply one of those videos you have to watch to really understand, for better or worse. If you enjoyed the unsettling animation style of Radiohead's "Paranoid Android," but always wished the video had more disco and boobs, then "Subways" might be a gift from the heavens for you.
