The late and legendary Paul Newman is most fondly remembered for his time in front of the screen...often with his regular acting partner and close friend, Robert Redford. He's Butch Cassidy and Eddie Felson for C*****'s sake! But he was also a director (though not as consistent a one as Robert Redford would be), and his debut feature, Rachel Rachel, starred his real-life wife Joanne Woodward as a lonely and sexually repressed schoolteacher suffering the banality of her own existence and her severe neuroses. It's heavy and mesmerizing stuff, and in the video for "Fake Roses" -- starring Academy Award nominated actress Virginia Madsen -- and I couldn't help but think of that criminally forgotten Paul Newman classic. Following Madsen's character (and Madsen's spellbinding performance) through a nightmarish and occasionally surreal series of vignettes, the video captures the existential horror of the omnipresent mundanity of life.
