Singer/producer/film director Neon Indian
just released his new video for "Annie," off of VEGA INTL. Night School
and it might be his best video yet. Directed by Alan Palomo himself, it has a VHS tape aesthetic where Palomo seems to be stuck in the cheesiest of karaokes.
And because he's stuck in a karaoke world, the lyrics are displayed on the bottom of the screen, and because the lyrics are displayed on the bottom of the screen, we're finally realizing now how whack they are. They're pretty f*cking literal -- "I tried Justine / She said to give you a ring / And I try to sleep / But all I can hear's the beep."
Maybe I was always too hypnotized by the heavy synths to hear the lyrics, but now Palomo is really advertising them. And along with the lyrics comes a very literal video which consists of Palomo, AKA the sax player, searching all over the city for his girl who he lost (Side note: Did Annie run away from him or does she just have a poor sense of direction? We never found out). The story line is amazing, the cinematography is amazing, and Palomo's artistic decision to keep the 80s-inspired theme consistent throughout all of his visuals is simply what makes him the cool guy that everyone wants to be friends with. *SPOILER ALERT* Alan, please let us help you look for your girlfriend so you don't get shot next time.
