Since Danny L Harle
's most recent EP 1UL
was released back in May, I've been listening to the title track pretty much non-stop. It wasn't originally my favorite track from the EP (at first it was "Me4U") but the more I listened to "1UL," the more it grew on me. The song is chock full of satisfying melodies, from the marimba sounds to the bass to the vocals. The producer has said of the EP that it's all about "making sad music that people can dance to," and that especially comes through in "1UL." The lyrics in the chorus, "So touch my body/If that's what you want/But don't touch my heart as if I could ever be the one you love," are both super catchy and kind of sad (but relatable). These contrast the upbeat sound of the music itself - essentially, this is the kind of song you can cry in the club to.
Even if you didn't know who Danny L Harle was until reading this, you probably know some of the artists he's worked with or produced for - he's collaborated with Carly Rae Jepsen
, Charli XCX
, and Superfruit, aka Mitch and Scott from Pentatonix
, among others. 1UL
is the second EP he's released (and I'd definitely recommend his first, Broken Flowers
, too). Overall, Danny L Harle is a super talented producer who knows a lot about music - he got studied classical music at Goldsmiths, University of London - and it comes through pretty clearly in all of his music, including today's song of the day.
