After covering Mary Margaret O'Hara's 1988 track "Body's In Trouble" on tour for quite some time now, Perfume Genius has shared a recorded version as a part of Spotify Singles series. In a statement, Perfume Genius' Mike Hadreas states that he's been covering the song since the first time he heard it, finding a kinship with its lyrics. "My relationship with my own body is confusing and I use music to try and puzzle it out," he continued in a statement.
Hadreas' connection to the song is easily apparent through his cover, which takes on a more somber and, as Hadreas says in the same statement, "sinister" approach to track. Hadreas' vocals are as emotionally raw as ever, as he sings about the complexity of having and owning your body. Much like the original, it's a hauntingly beautiful expression of coming to terms and embracing all that encompasses yourself.
