A few weeks ago, BANKS
released the second single, "Gemini Feed," off of her forthcoming album, The Altar,
and now she's out with the video for the track. It starts off with a more intimate, lo-fi recording of BANKS singing the chorus, almost whispering it under her breath as if she's singing to herself. As she sings, we see close ups of her draped in gorgeous jewelry and makeup -- dripping in jewels, white eyeliner, and Black Swan
What's interesting about the video is how intimate it is. It's basically several shots of the angry singer looking at the camera and singing to us, but all of the different looks she's sporting might represent different sides of herself. One shot of her sitting on a throne in a strong, black dress with electricity behind her might represent her newly found authority and power after leaving the depressive relationship. One shot with her laying on the floor with ropes in a white dress might represent her being tied up, innocent, and suppressed. And right behind that shot features her rolling around on the floor in another black outfit. It's all subjective of course, but the way BANKS uses fashion and lighting to enhance the meaning - and creepiness - of the song is undoubtedly impressive.
