Oh, Dan Auerbach/Patrick Carney why are you doing this to me? "Weight of Love" is an epic, nearly 7 minute force of pure rock & roll off the Black Keys' killer record, Turn Blue. And, boy, it deserves a better video than this. Directed like it was made by a high schooler who just discovered who Sappho was, "Weight of Love"'s video is a highly eroticized glimpse into the lives of a colony of women who may or may not worship the sun. And there's a lot of gratuitous nudity for good measure. Dutch supermodel Lara Stone stars in the video, but she exists as little more than a prop in some admittedly gorgeous landscape shots. The video is beautifully shot, but there's no denying a streak of frankly exploitative misogyny in its construction. I'm not arguing that nudity can't have a place in cinema or music videos, but its use in the "Weight of Love" is for titillation and nothing more. People, we're better than this.
