Some sad news on the rock and roll front is circulating the music-sphere; Allen Lanier, a founding member and keyboardist/guitarist of Blue Oyster Cult passed away yesterday at the age of 67 from a long battle with Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (COPD). Lanier performed with the band for almost 35 years (as Blue Oyster Cult), retiring in 2006. His last performance was in November of 2012 for the band's 40th anniversary concert.
Blue Oyster Cult made a name for themselves with their hard rocking, heavy metal jams, and have cemented their place in rock and roll lore. Perhaps best known for their 1976 hit "(Don't Fear) The Reaper," the band will certainly miss one of the key pieces to its initial success in Lanier. For him, we give a 21-cowbell salute
and wish him the best in the hard-rock afterlife.
