Summer involves travel. People flock to the beach, the pool, and anywhere else to keep out of the heat. For some summer vacation means a trip to the tropical islands of the Bahamas and lounging in the sand. For others it means visiting your family in central Pennsylvania, where inventions like air conditioning haven't been embraced yet. Wherever you go, whether you're crossing state lines or continents this summer, here's ten songs to listen to along the way.
1. "Leaving on a Jet Plane" by John Denver
It doesn't matter if you're actually flying somewhere or just driving past the airport, John Denver's "Leaving on a Jet Plane" is the quintessential travel song.
2. "Island in the Sun" by Weezer
Space travel isn't an option yet, so listen to Weezer instead.
3. "Born to Run" by Bruce Springsteen
Speaking of saxophones, what would any trip be without The Boss? Be sure to include him on your playlist.
4. "Headlong into the Abyss" by We Are Augustines
Steal a four-door sedan and driving around listening to this song. Instant vacation.
5. "Mesa, AZ" by Bad Books
For those of you heading out West or taking a road trip this summer, this song encapsulates the headspace of being on the road for hours on end.
6. "City Middle" by The National
If you're staycationing this summer, The National is a great band to listen to while exploring your hometown.
7. "Jump into the Fog" by The Wombats
Gross hotel room woes and English accents. What more could you want?
8. "New York Groove (Hello Cover)" by Ace Frehley
I blame those damned commercials for this one. It's a catchy song if you're visiting/leaving/missing NYC.
9. "Runaways" by The Killers
It will be on the radio anyways, you might as well add it to your list. It's also a great song.
10. "Under Pressure" by Queen/David Bowie
This song has nothing to do with traveling, but everyone good playlist needs a song that you can sing along to. And by sing, I mean yell at the top of your lungs no matter how tone-deaf you are.
