City and Colour's Fervent Rock and Roll Sound On 'Wasted Love'

City and Colour frontman Dallas Green (see what he did there???) has been under his current moniker following his first musical excursions with post-hardcore outfit Alexisonfire. His style drifted away from his first band's roots dramatically, as Green adopted the simplicity of his acoustic guitar, finding recluse in the clarity of modern Americana, lyrically possessing a less angst-infused style.

"Wasted Love" is City and Colour's second cut from their upcoming album, If I Should Go Before You, which is due out this October. The track features a commanding baseline that carries lyrics rock and roll heartbreak, as Green longingly cries "Oh, I've been here so long/The day is almost gone/I must carry on/With this wasted love." Is it wrong for me instantly be reminded of the riff found on Bon Jovi's "Its My Life" (featured on the first CD I ever owned, Now That's What I Call Music 5), minus the resolving fifth note? I'm not entirely sure, so you'll have to decide for yourself. The video provides an inside look into City and Colours studio session along with a semi-cinematic theme that documents Dallas Green's brainchild at work.
