Similar to most Beach House
fanatics of this day and age, I find it extremely difficult to even begin to put into words exactly how excited I am for the release of their fifth studio album, Depression Cherry
. We've already heard the first single, "Sparks," a dreamy expedition of a track featuring discordant synths that seem to find their way to a harmonious conclusion after trudging through layers upon layers of shoegaze-esque effects.
Today, we've been given the chance to listen to "PPP" and "Beyond Love" via the bands very own single finder
. The website works based on a personal choice of three previous Beach House tracks, and points you in the direction of one of the three singles off Depression Cherry
. For example, choosing "Zebra", "Master of None", and "Heart of Chambers" will stream "PPP", whereas choosing "New Year", "Better Times", and "Astronaut" will play "Beyond Love."
The band released a statement via their Facebook page along with the single finder:
"For us, it's always a strange moment when a single has to be chosen. No one song ever feels like a perfect representative for a record. This device allows you all to choose the 3 songs you have enjoyed most in the past and have a "single" chosen for you based loosely on what we consider to be musical similarities. Enjoy"
Along with the single finder, Beach House also announced their setlist creator option on their tour list page
, allowing concert attendees to pick their favorite tracks as requests for upcoming shows:
"While on tour, we change our setlist every night and certain songs get played only a few times per tour. This device will allow us to know if there is a large number of people wanting to hear a certain song in any one place. It's not that we will definitely follow it, but it will certainly influence our set lists... maybe 50 people in milwaukee want to hear a song we made 10 years ago?!?!"
