So. Someone gave me full control of In Our Ears again. Muahahahahahaha. And tomorrow, I'm headed to Elements, a music and arts festival up in the Bronx. So I figured I'd give you a little selection of the artists that'll be in my ears tomorrow night. (See what I did there?) It's a very strange and eclectic collection of electronic music, but I hope you enjoy it.
Because of his legion of dedicated fans who literally fly around the country to attend his every show, Bassnectar pretty much takes over ever festival that he attends. He's created a pretty incredible community around his bass-y, eclectic sound.
I've been waiting to see this song live since the very first time I saw Bassnectar. It's an absolutely beautiful song.
Bassnectar has a lot of really high tempo, in your face songs, but it's early(ish) and I'm under-caffeinated so I chose some relatively chill ones for you today.
Front To Back (Bassnectar Remix)
I changed my mind. It's time to wake up.
One more, since Bassnectar is the guy everyone is there to see.
Let's return to chill, because Emancipator makes some of the most heartfelt and beautiful downtempo beats out there.
This song is the epitome of vibe-y. Don't @ me.
When I think of Emancipator, I think of this song. It's an older song but it just doesn't get old. Plus, the guitar is fabulous.
Subtronics makes heavy, bass-y electronic music, and usually adds distortions that land him firmly in the Riddim genre. It's hard hitting and will get definitely get you moving.
Look, you either really like Riddim or you really hate it, but I'm pretty sure you'll know which after you listen to this song.
Ok. If you weren't sure before, you have to be now. It's a deeply visceral reaction. I have to tell you, though; your opinion might change. Riddim can sound pretty abrasive the first time you hear it, but it's unique and fun to dance to, so listeners often warm up to it.
JADE CICADA PICKS:
Jade Cicada's music is pretty indescribable, but if I had to try, I guess I'd say… chill, bass-y, and weird.
The word Petrichor means the smell of earth after it rains. This is a calm, beautiful song to go with a that feeling, but if you think I picked this song because I like the name… you're totally right.
I don't have a particular reason for picking this song over any others I just kinda like it.
Here's some synth-y, catchy tunes to round out this playlist. Although I have to say, Snakehips doesn't fit in with this lineup, even a little bit. They're just way to normal. An interesting decision to add them, to be sure.
All My Friends
I think I just got this song out of my head for the first time since it was released, but Chance's feature in it is fabulous so it's going on the list.
Warm Water (Snakehips Remix)
I honestly just found this song while looking at tracks I could add to this list, but dear lord it's so good. And it's a perfect way to end this week's In Our Ears.
Well that's all, folks! Have a very, very fabulous weekend. I know I will ;).
