Rick Astley to Play First US Shows in 27 Years (THIS IS NOT A JOKE)

Don't worry guys, everything is wonderful again: 80s pop star and legendary Internet Meme Rick Astley has announced that he will be returning to the US for the first time since 1989. The singer, who is currently on the road in support of his new album, 50, will visit the Box in New York on August 10 and the famous Troubadour in Los Angeles on August 11. Unfortunately, Astley currently has no other US dates lined up, so fans outside of New York and Los Angeles will just have to either make the trek or wait and see for future announcements. *Fingers Crossed.*

For those who have never been on the Internet, Astley's hit song "Never Gonna Give You Up" experienced a resurgence in popularity around 2007, twenty years after the song's release, thanks to websites like 4Chan and YouTube. The song's music video, which features some amazing dad-dancing, 80s hair, and a very enthusiastic bartender for some reason, became the punch line for a prank known as "Rickrolling," in which a video claims to be something amazing but is actually the music video in disguise (which is still amazing, dont get me wrong). Whether or not you care to admit it, just about everyone has been Rickroll'd at some point in their lives, and the sudden exposure made Astley an unintended player in the Internet's history. YouTube even based their 2008 April Fools prank off the trend, making every video on their homepage take you straight to the song. Astley has said that he was certainly surprised by the trend, but considers it all in good fun and has no problem with his boyish face being the granddaddy of Internet pranks. While Rickrolling has slowed down somewhat in popularity, the prank still occasionally catches those off guard, now with the added shame of getting fooled by a 9-year-old Internet prank. It also seems that Melania Trump may be an Astley fan, or at least her scriptwriter is.

If you're no stranger to love, and happen to be in LA or New York, be sure to check out Astley's shows next week for some serious throwback. Also be sure to check out Astley's recent collaboration with Beyonce, which you can listen to right HERE.
