With their one-decibel-away-from-blown-out beats, reverberating vocals and guitar-heavy sound, Gauntlet Hair
sound like Japandroids
transported to a dance floor in Brooklyn. "I Was Thinking", out now on Forest Family Records in 7" form, sounds lo-fi, but accomplished and, though some of their aesthetic choices are unmistakably in right now, Gauntlet Hair sound unabashed and, frankly, exciting compared to a lot of bands out there using the same set-up.
The track's loudness is, of course, an easy way to grab your attention, but the melodic sensibilities at play between the wavering, celestial guitar squiggles and the war cry vocals are plenty absorbing &mdash "I Was Thinking", in its own ear-assaulting way, is actually kind of pretty. -ben krusling
