Toro y Moi
came out with "Girl Like You" almost a month ago as the first single off his new album Boo Boo
, which comes out tomorrow, July 7th. The song gives us an idea as to what the album will sound like, a more down tempo vibe that doesn't go without some calming beats. His two singles thus far have had that same melancholy tone to them. "Girl Like You" features 80s-inspired vocal effects and dreamy synths. "What it's gonna take for a guy like me to find a girl like you" Chazwick Bradley Bundick sings desperately. "No one can play this game alone, even if you try to," he continues.
We've all been in a situation at least once in our lives when we have longed for something or someone that seemed so far away, and Toro y Moi captures this agony perfectly. He sounds almost tormented, which proposes a nice contrast against the deceivingly "chill" music. "Aren't you gonna stay, keep me til' the sun comes up?" He asks, and we want the answer to be yes more than anything. Hopefully we'll find out how the story ends when the rest of Boo Boo
