For this week's #TBT, we're taking it back to our session with Vance Joy
from 2014. In the exclusive studio visit, the Australian singer-songwriter performs two songs from his debut album Dream Your Life Away,
"Mess is Mine" and "Riptide." Vance also talks a little bit about his songwriting processes for both the album in general and his biggest single, "Riptide." Interestingly, he says he started writing it in 2008, "I wrote the first two lines as a verse, and then four years later, I wrote the melody for the chorus." I always love hearing the stories behind songs, and getting to know the processes different artists use when they write; often, it seems like songwriting is like putting together a complicated puzzle, and Vance Joy's explanation of his own processes definitely shows that.
A couple weeks ago, Vance Joy released a new single and video, "Lay It On Me." It's the first music he's released since releasing his debut album in 2014, although he hasn't announced any upcoming album or EP. Vance is also beginning his North American stretch of the Lay It On Me
tour tomorrow at Panorama.
