Back in 2010, Peter Gabriel released an album of covers, Scratch My Back, with the promise that the artists he covered, such as Talking Heads and The Magnetic Fields, would return the favor. Well, that song exchange is finally happening in the form of I'll Scratch Yours, due out September 23rd on Real World Records. While some of these songs have already been released and not everyone is reciprocating (Radiohead, Neil Young, David Bowie), certain new songs, such as Arcade Fire's long-awaited cover of "Games Without Frontiers", have a lot of potential. It was interesting to hear Gabriel as his mother's only one on Bon Iver's "Flume" and do his best Guy Garvey on Elbow's "Mirrorball", but after listening to Lou Reed's take on "Solsbury Hill", it's hard not get excited when looking at this star-studded track listing. I would have loved to hear the Gabriel-referencing Vampire Weekend's take on "In Your Eyes", but I'll settle for Joseph Arthur's "Shock the Monkey".
1 David Byrne- "I Don't Remember"
2 Bon Iver- "Come Talk to Me"
3 Regina Spektor- "Blood of Eden"
4 Stephin Merritt- "Not One of Us"
5 Joseph Arthur- "Shock the Monkey"
6 Randy Newman- "Big Time"
7 Arcade Fire- "Games Without Frontiers"
8 Elbow- "Mercy Street"
9 Brian Eno- "Mother of Violence"
10 Feist- "Don't Give Up" [ft. Timber Timbre]
11 Lou Reed- "Solsbury Hill"
12 Paul Simon- "Biko"
Elbow: "Mercy Street"
Lou Reed: "Solsbury Hill"
Stephin Merritt: "Not One of Us"
Joseph Arthur: "Shock the Monkey"
Bon Iver: "Come Talk To Me"
