a difficult to capture flutter

Dirty Projectors fans should probably rejoice, Swedish husband and wife duo Wildbirds & Peacedrums share a likeminded experimental, layered play with percussions and unusual cooed layers of vocals as part instrumentation. Not only that, but their flickering rhythms and pulsing vocals, the unpredictable nature of their songs that are part pop, part experimental, part experience and beauty hold a offhand charm that few can mirror (perhaps hinted at in the teasing, cool pop of Lykke Li).

There are bits and pieces of the usual offbeat Swedish charm, a difficult to capture flutter, like a pretty girl with features slightly off the conventional, curled eyelashes and jerky dance moves in unusual draped clothes, big ribbons tied in soft long hair, an off hand aloofness. The musical notes here are already jumping rain drops, pretty and unexpected, and together the band have created something refreshingly new and wonderful. Something to discover and marvel at, a new species that is a bit of everything all at once.

Already recipients of the Jazz in Sweden 2008 award and pre-Pitchfork approved (the import version of their album recieved a 8.3, and their prior album a 8.0), Wildbirds & Peacedrums are finally bringing their unusual, lovely songs to the US with the magic disoveries tucked within their album The Snake, to be released August 25th. In the meantime, listen to songs off The Snake on their Myspace, and fall in love with the band before the rest of America catches up.
