Lower Dens Turn The Bowery Ballroom Into a Spaceship

    Lower Dens' breakout album, Nootropics has been described as being "beamed in from somewhere else" and last night, they made sure to bring that feeling to the Bowery Ballroom. Playing against a projection screen akin to a Windows Media Player visualizer circa 1997, the band played mostly in the shadows (which must be a thing these days) and knocked out hypnotic tunes from both Nootropics and their debut Twin-Hand Movement, blowing away the packed house with overpowering bass lines and distorted effects. Not only was it amazing to see the small-statured lead singer Jana Hunter in complete control, but it was also great seeing guitarists Will Adams and Geoffrey Graham reproduce the outer-space sounds of their albums, and seeing drummer Nate Nelson play with such delicate intricacy.
