Gregory Alan Isakov makes some of the most pleasant music on the planet. I've referenced it before and I'll reference it again. As an NPR producer put it a few years back, his music is akin to laying in the back of a pickup truck and staring up at the stars. I just can't paint a better picture than that. If you don't have a truck, your ear buds or your living room will do. Worked for us a few years back.

As perfect as his songs are, it's been 5 years since he released a proper full-length album (2013's The Weatherman). His rather epic re-imagination of songs with the Colorado Symphony did create a wonderful new world in which his songs to inhabit, but Gregory...Gregory. It's time for new songs. We've been waiting...I've been waiting!

Luckily, Isakov recently teased a new album titled Evening Machines with a beautiful new track titled, "Chemicals". The song's simple, acoustic strums and sneaky vocals are instantly recognizable and will hit the sweet spot for any fan of his music. The album does take his sound to loftier, and somewhat moodier places. You'll have to wait until October 5th when it's released via Dualtone Records.

The album was recorded at his converted barn studio in Boulder County Colorado. Of the album, Isakov says, "I'd work really hard into the night. A lot of times I would find myself in the light of all these VU meters and tape machine glow, so that's where the title came from. I recorded mostly at night, when I wasn't working in the gardens. It doesn't matter if it's summer or winter, morning or afternoon. This music always feels like evening to me".

Gregory and his band came by Baeble a few years ago. We didn't get to record this one in the back of a pickup, but I think you'll find this session to be as lovely as ever.
