I remember all of the cringeworthy performances I put on in my high school talent show days. It would just be my best friend on drums and me on guitar, covering Avril Lavigne's "Everything Back But You" (no joke, if you did enough digging, you could find that on the internet). At the time, we thought we were the
coolest kids of the 7th grade, but no one else understood it. Instead, they just looked at us as the biggest nerds of all time. Whatever.
Fast forward to now and Birmingham, AL band MRYGLD
are out with their new video for "Cool Kids," where they flash back to those good old high school days, except, uh, they sound way
less cringeworthy. Looking a little bit like Napoleon Dynamite, each band member stands awkwardly on stage as they play their instruments, rocking bowl haircuts and creepy ‘staches. The audience is given 3D glasses that, when worn, suddenly transform the band into the cool kids they're singing about. It's a fun visual and definitely something that everyone can relate to. The song, which is off of the band's self-titled debut EP released earlier this year, has a bit of a Brit-new wave vibe to it, with bright electric guitars and smooth harmonies. This is only the beginning for the southern band, and we're excited to see what they do next.
