It's universal fact: Everybody needs some love in their life, and music can be all you need to make it happen. Way before Netflix, music was the go-to for star-crossed lovers everywhere to find a reason to sit back, get nice and close, and...well, chill. From Marvyn Gaye's "Let's Get it On" to Roberta Flack's "Feel Like Makin' Love" to pretty much Barry White's entire discography, music has long been used as a celebration of unbridled passion and finding a genuine connection with someone else. If you need some new music to provide the soundtrack for your special night together, then look no further than HONNE
, a London'based duo who are making some of the best and most infectious electro'soul out there today.
HONNE, made up by singer Andy and producer James, began back in 2014, when James was a music teacher and Andy was a music technician at the same school. Described by James as "Bill Withers with a laptop," the duo found their trademark sound by perfecting a highly unique blend of intimate 70s soul, classic 80s drum machines, and modern'day electronic music. HONNE officially busted onto the scene about a year ago with their debut single "Warm On A Cold Night," a passionate and intimate track that took the Internet by storm, with the music video garnering 2 million+ views on YouTube. "We wrote ['Warm On A Cold Night'] and thought it kind of summed up what we're about," says Andy, "And then from there we just tried to write loads more songs in that kind of vein." Thanks to their seductive and effortlessly soulful sound, HONNE has gained some major online cred and support, with 9 million hits on SoundCloud, 6 million combined views on YouTube, and 4 million streams on Spotify. Considering they've only released a few singles, these numbers are nothing to snuff at.
Speaking of their singles, HONNE are set to release their debut record, Warm On A Cold Night
, on July 22 (Pre-Order
, but have been giving their fans some previews of the late-love under the sun. Their most recent single, "Someone That Loves You," features some undeniably captivating chemistry between Andy and guest vocalist Izzy Bizu, resulting in a tune that will instantly bring you back to the first time you felt that feverish, panic-inducing, gushy feeling in your chest, otherwise known as falling in love.
We recently met up with HONNE for a session at Ear Studios in Austin, Texas, where the duo played some stripped down and even more intimate versions of both their previously released music and some songs from their upcoming record. Be sure to check back Thursday for that session, but in the meantime, let HONNE help you out on your next date by giving the night a little bit of pop, plenty of sultry hooks, and lots of much-needed soul.
