Everyone's favorite booding midwestern sort-of-pretty boy,
Conor Oberst, is coming out with an album... his first solo release in thirteen years (lucky number?) It's coming out on August 5th. In the meantime, we might have a bit of free sample for you...
The song is called "Danny Callahan," and it certainly speaks to the new direction Oberst is supposedly taking, from off-the-wall on-the-edge crybaby caterwauling to indie-best-western shuffle. The lyrics are still quirky and jittery, as is Oberst voice (mentioning chloroform is more a Conor and less a Kenny Chesney thing). Regardless, we'll see if he can pull it off, sans the
Bright Eyes combo we're accustomed to.
Conor Oberst is out on
Merge Records a little over two weeks from now. -
