Over the weekend, I listened to The Band CAMINO's recently released EP, Heaven. Something about the track, "My Thoughts On You" caught my attention from the opening lines of the first verse. My first impulse was that of course a sad song about still not being over someone would appeal to me, but as the first verse finished up with the words, "All of my feelings went away" I realized there was something deeper going on here. Then, suddenly, it hit me.
The lead singer of Memphis based dream pop quartet The Band CAMINO is Jeffrey Jordan. The lead singer of another dream pop group by the name of LANY is Paul Jason Klein. Have you ever noticed how you never see Jeffrey Jordan and Paul Jason Klein in the same room together at the same time? Have you ever noticed how their voices sound exactly the same? No? Ok listen to The Band CAMINO's "My Thoughts On You". Focus on the sighing quality of Jordan's high, smooth voice, particularly on the chorus.
Now listen to "yea, babe, no way" and pay careful attention to Paul Jason Klein's voice while thinking about Jeffrey Jordan's sound. Do you hear it? They are definitely the exact same person.
An internet search revealed that neither band is a side project of the other, so the only reasonable conclusion is a Bruce Wayne/Batman type situation where Jeffrey/Paul spends a lot of time in transit between seemingly unrelated recording studios and live appearances, probably changing his disguise in the car while an accomplice drives. Now, the only question is, which lead singer is the real deal and which is the persona? I don't know, but here's another pair of songs where the vocal similarity is too real for my theory to be wrong.
