Since our original summer mixtape was the expected, almost already solidified summer jams of 2011, we've considered our Fourth of July mix to be its b-side. You'll see a lot of familiar summer faces with one notable difference—token jams have been put aside in favor our our favorite sonic separatists. Below, some of our favorite jams from Cults, Foster The People, GIVERS, and many many more. Light up some fireworks and get afer it. Happy weekend!

    1. "Perth" - Bon Iver - Bon Iver

The "wake up, summer" song. NAturally, Bon Iver described most of the album as the spring to For Emma's winter.

    2. "Life On The Nickel" - Foster The People - Torches

Once you've shaken that nap, it's time to shake something else. Much more of a banger than FTP's already annointed song-of-the-summer "Pumped Up Kicks", you're much more likely to feel that five hour energy brewing after some "Life on the Nickel", trust me.

    3. "Ceiling Of Plankton" - GIVERS - GIVERS

Some GIVERS song have ten times the energy and no perceivable shelf life for being infectious, and this is one of them.

    4. "You and I" - Washed Out - Within and Without

Lots of Ernest Greene's work can be summer-y, but only this one features the wonderful, charming voice of Caroline Polachek of Chairlift. Great chilled out jam, perfect for angsty arguments with blood-thirsty music companies.

    5. "Abducted" - Cults - Cults

Cults may have "Go Outside" as the summer song you need, but "Adducted" is the jump-up-and-down anthem that we deserve. Seriously, crank this one to 11.

    6. "Sunshine Blues" - Bahamas - Pink Stat

It's not summer without the obligatory folk flip-flop poolside serenade. It kind of sounds like a cool breeze, doesn't it? The band is called Bahamas, which makes the math even easier.

    7. "Family Tree" - Black Lips - Arabia Mountain

If, after a serious number of bruskies, this Black Lips tune doesn't make you want to throw a TV into the pool, then nothing will.

    8. "Irrational Love" - The Shiver - More

Although 'The Shivers' isn't something you're likely to get during the warmer months (unless you've got some serious AC cranking), this Queens act pens some great stuff. This song is the perfect frustrated by the lack of hand holding tune.

    9. "Party (Ft. Andre 3000)" - Beyonce - 4

I mean say what you will about 4, I certainly have. But this song hits the nail on the head of summer with a sledgehammer. And anything with Andre 3000 gets my votes.

    10. "Companions" - Dodos - No Color

Nighttime beach party soundtrack. 'Nuff said.
