Why does every artist have to drop their album on the same day? For us listeners, it's a challenge to catch up with every new release, especially when it's several different releases from all really exciting artists. So to cut through the noise and make sure you have all of your ducks in a row, we're briefly rounding up the most important albums to listen to this week.
1. SZA – Ctrl
SZA's album has finally arrived. We've patiently been waiting as she's dropped various singles featuring Travis Scott and Kendrick Lamar, but today Ctrl
is here! Some of her best tracks include "20 Something," "Drew Barrymore" and "Pretty Little Birds" featuring Isaiah Rashad.
2. Katy Perry - Witness
Ever since watching the performance of "Swish Swish" on SNL
, we knew that this album might be something a little odd. But that doesn't mean you shouldn't at least check it out. "Roulette" and "Bigger than Me" definitely showcase some electric beats and questionable lyrics.
3. London Grammar - Truth is a Beautiful Thing
If you're in the mood for peaceful piano and slow and powerful vocals make sure you listen to this new album. "Rooting for You" and "Wild Eyed" feature bittersweet lyrics and Hannah Reid's strong voice.
4. Phoenix - Ti Amo
This is their first album since 2013 and it has a nice mix of their familiar indie rock/pop sounds but also includes some more groovy and electric beats. "Tuttifrutti" or "Goodbye Soleil" are definite standouts.
5. Slow Dancer - In a Mood
The Australian singer-songwriter comes out with jazzy vibes in "I've Been Thinking" that slowly build to a louder chorus including his repeating lyrics and piano sounds. The song "Heaven Knows" adds a great guitar melody that carries through it - like many of the songs in the album. Don't forget to check out our Q&A
6. AJR - The Click
"Sober Up" featuring River Cuomo starts with loud strings and then begins to pick up by the chorus, and no song will make you fly higher than the dynamic and energetic "Weak." These boys have a great story and they put on a kick ass show, so don't forget to check out our latest session
with them as well.
7. Big Thief – Capacity
Lead singer for Big Thief Adrianne Lenker has the ability to tell various stories
with the help of her soft voice and mellow guitar to follow. Tracks where the guitar sounds really shine are both "Pretty Things" and "Objects."
