The anti-pop movement seems to dominate every generation, and blows up just as hard as traditional songwriters like The New Pornographers. In the world of No Age and Battles, there is a new kid on the block, and they are just as full of loose ends in their pop tunes: Ponytail.

Hailing from Baltimore, they are by no means new. But a recent show at Music Hall of Williamsburg caught some attention. If you can't stomach the aforementioned New Age, we'd recommend you stop reading now. Their crazy dueling guitar melodies and rhythmic grooves are matched by vocals from Molly Siegel, whose singing can only be described as some sort of tribal yelping. We like the ambitious and catchy riffs mixed together with some serious open ended song structure with little discernable direction. The first track we heard off of the forthcoming Ice Cream Spiritual sounds intriguing and original, while still being grounded in some form of melodicism. We look forward to it. -joe puglisi
