I am freaking out right now.

Yes, I know that's a horrible way to start an article, but I've been staring at my computer screen for the past five minutes, starting and restarting this piece about Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile's new tour over and over again, and ultimately decided to just write what I feel. And what I feel is that I am definitely freaking out at the moment!

Do you ever find yourself digging up old news about some of your favorite artists that you were, somehow, blissfully unaware of when it was first reported? Well, I do sometimes (it's probably not the best idea for me to admit something like that, seeing as how keeping up with the news is part of what I do here, but… hey, I'm only human), and that's exactly what happened with me today when I discovered that Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile recorded an album together. If you, like me, are a fan of either (or both) of these artists, then you should have also been freaking out about that news when it first came to light in March (way… way back in March… you know, months ago… in March… again, I'm only human).

Today, it came out that the pair will be touring together in North America, and during the tour they'll be performing new songs from their upcoming collaborative effort for the first time.

On paper, this collaboration sounds like the most obvious thing in the world (Courtney Barnett and Kurt Vile? Yeah, duh! Of course that's happening). They're both excellent lyricists, and over the past couple of years Barnett especially has gotten a lot of deserved attention for her funny, poetic songwriting.

I mean, it just makes perfect sense that these two songwriters would admire each other's work. In a recent interview, Barnett mentioned how much Vile's album Smoke Ring for My Halo meant to her when she was going through a breakup, singling out the track "Peeping Tomboy."

Vile's a big fan of Barnett as well, and stated that "Depreston" was one of his favorite songs from Barnett's acclaimed Sometimes I Sit and Think, and Sometimes I Just Sit.

The duo won't be alone on their tour, and will be joined by their backing band The Sea Lice, which consists of an all-star line-up (Janet Weiss from Sleater Kinney, Stella Mozgawa from War Paint, Katie Harkin from Sky Larkin, and Rob Laakso from the Violators). A dollar from each ticket sold will be donated to the ACLU, and we'll finally be able to listen to their collaboration sometime later this year. Check out the dates for their tour in the fall below.
