We've known for a while that Coldplay
has been tailoring a follow-up to Viva la Vida
. Their new single, "Every Teardrop is a Waterfall", listens like an extension of their last album, while possibly borrowing part of its chord progression from Peter Allen's "I Go to Rio"
. The tune is catchy, invariably imbued with pop, and it has a cool guitar riff embedded in the chorus. The overall feel is quite a ways off from the days of "The Scientist" or "Don't Panic". We can't help but begin to think that if Viva la Vida
was a changing wind, that this new single could be the weather vain confirming its permanence.
