Jack and the Pulpits new(ish) EP Francypants emits the kind of authentically home-made vibe that'll have you convinced they're sitting on the floor next to you making this stuff up. In actuality, the songs were recorded by Annie Nero and Josh Kaufman years ago on a 4-track cassette recorder, and only dug up recently to be released by Serious Business in late 2009.

An impeccably simple indie/folk creation, the EP features three tracks which each have a distinct sound that keeps the record interesting. Check out "Show Off," a childhood lamentation sung harmoniously by the most child-like grown ups to have this kind of musical skill in a long time. -selden paterson
