This week, we're throwing it back to an exclusive interview we did a while ago with soul-singer Allen Stone
. In the video, he sings and explains the ideas behind two songs from his self-titled sophomore album, "Contact High" and "Sleep." He considers how he got to sound the way he does; growing up with a minister for a father and singing gospel songs in church, and then getting into the greats of soul music when he was 15, definitely influenced the music he makes now. Stone also gets into his motivation for writing. He talks about how he is inspired by the music of the 60s and 70s that influenced cultural events like the Civil Rights movement and the hippie movement, saying "the music that at least motivates me to write songs is the type of music that is conscious."
Allen Stone is currently in the middle of a tour
with pop-rock legends Hall and Oates and Tears for Fears that started back in May and ends at the beginning of August.
