If we remember Drake's 2009 video for "Best I Ever Have," we can fondly revisit images of Drake basking in the glory of popularity, youth, and ladies in sports bras. Which is why when we watch the new video for "Marvin's Room," we're a little concerned for Drake: has fame got to him? Twenty-four year Drake appears to have aged tremendously since his squeaky-clean "Degrassi" image, as he alone and heavily bearded at a bar, downing drink after drink. This extremely low-budget video is filmed out of focus with choppy cuts, perhaps symbolizing the cheapness of Drake's experiences. He goes through his phonebook looking for "bitches in his old phone" to go home with, before making the poor decision to drunk-dial the woman who he truly loves. Between morose shots of Drake reminiscing about "bitches he almost had" are high-def shots of Range Rovers and champagne pours, 'cause why not? For the last moment of the song we are let into the world of Drake's true sadness, as he stares at himself in a mirror and for the first time in the song he begins to sing along with the line, "I've had sex four times this week." Drake is drunk, depressed, and uncomfortable with the sight of himself in the mirror. And as much as we want to pity him, this is
Drake, after all. We have a slight suspicion that he might just be alright with his success.
The song is set to appear on Drake's upcoming album, Take Care
